PCO 1293
Producer of Pirate TV Seattle.

I began to politically wake up about 1967 the “Summer of Love”. This was about the same time I began playing drums. Within a few years I became a professional musician and an armature rabble rouser and have been ever since. I took a debate class in 9th grade. The teacher said we could debate any subject except Viet Nam so of course that’s what we voted for. He acted like he was quite upset but said he would allow it up until just one of our “stupid parents” came in and gave him any crap. So we kept our mouths shut. I liked that old guy. This is when I first learned how to do research. Before the end of the class I had turned against the war and soon began reading books. Before long I knew the entire history of the American involvement in Southeast Asia. In High School we used to take off and go to down town Seattle to the Anti-War demonstrations. After witnessing several of my friends get beat up I began to realize who the police actually “protect and serve”.

My dad was a “lifer” in the Navy and my budding awareness caused a lot of conflicts. In collage I was staying with a friend and his parents, his dad was the chair of the history department at SCCC, Daniel Peterson. I had a front row seat for Watergate and the scandals of the early 70s. Dan took us down to the McGovern rallies. I got to see McGovern “live”. They lowered the voting age. McGovern was the first one I voted for. Dan took me to the Unitarians to get draft counseling. Luckily I had a high draft lottery number so I didn’t have to leave the country. They say age tends to make you more conservative. It seems to have had the opposite effect on me. The more I learn, the more radical I get. This must be what Michael Parenti means when he says “the truth is radical”.
